South Townsville Football Club

The South Townsville Australian Football Club was the second club to be formed in Townsville a few days after the Hermit Park Club was founded.

Rick Southee and Chas McKenna called a meeting at Victoria Park and the new club was formed with Chas McKenna President and Rick Southee as Secretary.

In 1956 their seniors were runners up and South was to win their first Senior Premiership in 1957 beating the RAAF side.

Premiers: 1957, 1959, 1960, 1963, 1968, 1974. 1988.

Runners Up: 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1967, 1970, 1971, 1976, 1984/5, 1987/8.

Interestingly they were champion club in 1961, 1962, and 1964 none of which were Premiership years.

South Townsville holds the dubious record of being held scoreless on three occasions.

The first time was against Currajong on April 18th 1964.

On July 5th 1969 against 2RAR.

On July 30th 1978 against West Townsville.

The Reserves Competition started in 1971 South Townsville was runners up to Hermit Park.

All up South Townsville later Townsville Swans won Reserves Premierships in 1972, 1976 and 1983.

The Reserves were Runners Up in 1971, 1974.
